- Making a one-time contribution
- Establishing a monthly, annual, or other continuing contribution
- Establishing a scholarship fund
- Joining The Friends of the Sonoma Valley Library Legacy Circle.
The Friends of the Sonoma Valley Library is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization. EIN# 94-2370298.
Book GroupsThe Mystery Book Club is a lively discussion group which sticks to the book and does not veer off into personal shares. All you need to join is a library card. At each monthly meeting the book that will be discussed at the next meeting is provided. The club has a loyal following and it has been said that occasionally the discussion is better than the book. Because we are reading "murder" mysteries there is some violence in every offering.
Each meeting begins with a presentation about the author. Members volunteer to do the research and the presentation. No one person does it all the time. Each person has as much time as they need to speak about the book without interruption and with the rest of the members listening with respect to what is being said.
The club meets for one hour in the Forum Room at the Library on the first Thursday of each month at 4:00pm. For more information call Kassandra Miller at 935-9415 or email her at Kassandra4@comcast.net Check the CALENDAR for date changes.
Book SalesThe Friends hold four book sales each year in February, May, August and November. Check CALENDAR for specific days and times. All books, videos, DVDs or CDs have been donated and are not library discards. Members of the Friends can shop on the Wednesday from 11:00am to 3:30pm before the sale opens to the general public. During the sale, all children from toddlers through high school can choose one free book. At the end of the sale teachers and non-profits take the remaining books. Donations can be dropped off in the marked shed behind the library. For more information or to volunteer, call Carol Brown at 935-7016.
InitiativesThe FOL Initiative Committee works with the Library Branch Manager, library patrons, the Friends Board of Directors and partners to develop new ideas, visions, projects and programs that will enrich the library experience. The Initiatives Committee is responsible for providing a clear definition and scope for any proposed plan. All fully developed initiatives are presented to the FOL Board of Directors for approval.
The Initiatives Committee is currently attempting to define how the library will respond and change to the rapidly advancing format of multimedia digital delivery.
